Changing
channels.... The Diary Service has recently changed its phone numbers to provide you with a better service, please try and use these numbers from now on. |
|||||||||||
|
The
diary telephones now operate through digital channels not lines - giving you
a clearer line and a better service. You will rarely get the engaged
tone when dialling, and there will be no cost to you until the call is taken.
Diary co-ordinators are now
dedicated to your
side of |
the
diary service - therefore being able to give you a better and faster service.
Transfers can be made from one side of the diary to the other, so there is no
need to redial. Please use these numbers from
now on - the old numbers will eventually be phased out. |

The new individual savings account (ISA) will come into effect
on 6th April 1999 and is guaranteed to run for at least 10 years offering
certainty to people who want to use the plan for long term savings. These arrangements for ISA’s are good news for existing
PEP investors. So, you can go on putting money into your PEP until the end of
the tax year on 5th April 1999 safe in the knowledge that your funds will
continue to enjoy the same tax breaks into the future. So in other words,
beyond April 6th 1999, your PEP will be allowed to remain in force,
benefiting from the same tax breaks that are available now. In addition
you’ll be allowed to subscribe to the ISA (£7,000 in one year and £5,000 in
subsequent years). The main features of the ISA are that you’ll be able to
put £5,000 per annum into the plan of which no more than £1,000 can go into |
cash and £1,000 into life insurance. However, in the first
year of the scheme (tax year 1999 - 2000) the limit will be £7,000 of which
no more than £3,000 can go into cash and £1,000 in to life insurance. The account will be completely free of tax (no capital
gains, no income tax on dividends) and just like PEP’s, there will be no
statutory lock in or minimum subscription needed to invest. And, there is no
lifetime limit on the amount of money you can build up in your ISA. For further information, contact our independent advisor, Robert Turrell on 01732 743092 Regulated by the Personal Investment Authority. |

1997/98 Second Payment On Account The
1997/98 second payment on account was due on
31st January 1998. Each 1997/98
instalment was based on half of the 1996/97 liability, unless election had
been made to reduce the payments on account.
Most self employed tax payers will now be aware of the punitive
interest regime under self assessment.
If the second 1997/98 payment on account was late, the Revenue will
charge interest at the rate of 9.5% of the over due tax. There is no deminimis limit on the interest
charge, with the Revenue issuing demands
for the smallest amounts,
despite the processing costs of a demand being estimated at £35! |
1997 Tax Returns The
filing deadline for the 1997 returns was 31st January 1998. Returns submitted
after thisdateare liable to a £100 automatic penalty. If the returns were still outstanding at
31st July 1997 a further penalty of £100 is payable. These penalties are reduced to the amount
of the tax liable if that is less.
Inland Revenue estimates indicates that there are still over 1 million
returns still outstanding. |
