For many years now, I have
been giving advice to young professionals and established clients alike on CV
production, self promotion and marketing, both here at MAS and also at music colleges
throughout the country. Many of the questions I am asked are not ones I can
answer personally, and so I often have to direct musicians to specialists who
can help them. As a result of this came
the idea of an Advice Day here at MAS.
We propose to arrange a number of short, informal talks given by
qualified professionals who will cover a range of topics selected from the
following ·
CV production
and self promotion ·
Income tax and
national insurance ·
Mortgages,
investments and financial planning ·
Approaching an
agent as a soloist or as a chamber ensemble ·
CD production
and distribution ·
Media rights,
including PAMRA, PPL and copyright Buffet
Lunch There will be a buffet
lunch with wine, giving you the opportunity to discuss your individual
concerns with your colleagues and with the specialist speakers, to see MAS in
action and to meet some of our staff. When? I am proposing to hold the
Advice Day on a Sunday during the latter half of January or the first half of
February: a good time, I feel, for reassessment and review. In order to gauge the response to this
event and the most popular areas of interest, I have enclosed a pre-paid
response card. Please return the card
by 30th June in order that we can include your preferences in our
assessment. The results of the survey
will be published in the September Newsletter, with details of how to apply. We hope to see you, for
what will be a most informative and enjoyable day. Richard Smith |

Robin
Smith would like to thank everyone who supported the Stateside Stompers by attending their recent jazz night in aid of The Drake Music Project. The
evening raised over £500 for the charity. Around 300
people came through the door to hear the band play at the Rivoli
Ballroom, where an amazing night was had by all. Look
out for their forthcoming album, or for more news visit their website,
Don’t forget! - if you want your CV in the next update the deadline is the 1st of June |
Input
from you… If you
have anything you would like to shout about, let the diary service know. This
newsletter is sent out to all our clients and all the fixers we deal with
regularly. The size of potential readership could really get your news heard.
Have you
recently recorded a CD that you would like your colleagues to know about, do
you know of a worthwhile event that could do with a promotional boost, or do you simply want to blow your own trumpet about a recent achievement? Let the
diary know if you have any ideas for the next quarter and will be happy to
discuss them with you. |
